May 14th
Sorry for the slow entries this year. Life has been busy with other stuff. I'm trying not to let the pumpkins suffer but that is happening a bit. I need to get out in the garden and get some work done. All pumpkins are out in the clouches and doing well (so are the weeds). I do believe I am still ahead of last year Just hope that can continue. I did find my camera but I still have no pumpkin pictures to show for it. I do however have some picture to show of some of my distracting activities. There is a story behind all of these pics but I'm waiting for the kids to write them.

May 20th,
Actually got out in the patch today. I weeded the greenhouses. Looks like things are going well. All of my primary plants are survivors and the backups will the culled unless something unforseen occurs. Here is a run down on the length of the vines. I'll have to look back at the records but I think this is good. Actually I don't have any records from this early in the season. Last year I had a 4 foot vine on the 1101 on June 7th. In 2001 my best plant had 4 foot vines on May 30th.
500 Northrup 24"
1101 Northrup 18"
857 Christensen (my wife's plant) 18"
670 Daigle 15"
857 Christensen (my plant) 12"
869 Calai 6"
May 30th,
Things have been going well. Haven't been paying near as much attention to the patch as I should have been. One of these days I will add my addendum to Brandi's bear story above. Most of the plants have passed the 4 foot mark, the 562 is at 5 foot but it is marked to be culled as it is double planted with the 1101. The 1101 is about 4 1/2 feet. The 869.5 is still the slow plant at about 3'. The 500 was doing well but the tip got damaged. Not sure whether I did it pruning tendrils or something else. I will be training a secondary vine as a replacement main. This is about the best start that I have had, but I started the plants a week earlier so its comparing apples and oranges. Hoping to get a pollination set between June 25th and July 1st.
