| August 6th, I have pretty much given up for the season. I could not bring myself to till the plants under (not quite sure why). I have 1 pumpkin set on the the 1502 that is taping at 74 inch circumfrence (about 117#). It doesn't even compare to last season that I had two that were already over 500 pounds by today. I have two plants that are finally beginning to set pumpkins but I have not pollinated them, I'm letting mother nature do its thing. Then there are the other five plants that can't even set pumpkins on secondaries. I have not weeded, or done any vine control in the last 3 weeks or better and it sure shows. I figure why bother at the this point. I did put sand under the 1502 but I have not put up a shade structure. I hope everyone else's season is going better. I am still planning the Pumpkin Pickin Party on September 26th at 2pm. August 17th Having problems with my web site program. Hoping to update my hiking page shortly (at least that was a positive experience). The pumpkin patch is still dismal- The pumpkin is estimated at around 250#. Will have about 50 pumpkins this year that will all be less then 100 pumpkins. There could be a 300 pounder hiding out there I won't know until the vines freeze. The patch is an absolute disaster. It is amazing how big a mess the place turns into when it is not cared for. I never did cover my "big" one (I use that term very loosely). |

| August 28th, No big change here. I still can't enter the patch for fear of getting attacked by man eating pumpkin vines. They are everywhere. I did sneak in and measure yesterday and I come up with an estimated 317 Pounds Yippee boy am I excited- This pumpkin will set a record as the smallest pumpkin I have grown in 10 years. I do have 10-30 pumpkins hiding in the patch that will be between 50-100 pounds. I can't see them all. I will have to wait for a freeze to be able to. At least I will have some for Jack-O-Lanterns |
