Wyoming Antelope
October 27th, 2006
I will let the kids tell there story but I will add my 2 cents on this one. This hunt started back in March when filling out hunt applications for the various states. Wyoming had gone to a point system so if you ever want to hunt antelope (or any other species) you had to start put in. We decided if we were going to put in for antelope bucks we may as well put in for does as well. If nothing else it would get the kids an opportunity to pull the trigger as those are quite rare.
We drew the tags this summer and I had thought about going to look at the area but that never happened as life is always too busy. Finally on the last weekend of the hunt we scheduled two days where we could leave. Like many of our adventures I figured there was a good chance this would be a complete bust. Having never hunted the area, not having even been to town, and having no clue what we would find. We had a motel booked in Pinedale for Friday night. We ended up not leaving town here untill 8 am. I figured Friday we would get the lay of the land and then Saturday if lucky would shoot 1 or 2 antelope.
I will let the kids tell the rest but I will say that we started hunting about noon and we were done and on the way home by 4:30. Not your typical scenario for having no idea what we were doing.
The weather was great and the smile on the kids faces says it all. What a great family activity. I think the kids will make me do this again next year.
We went to Wyoming thinking that it would be a wild goose chase like up in northern Idaho this spring. We were going antelope hunting and we pass Pinedale, Wyoming and are going down the road and I look out the window and there was a ton of antelope. So we pull off and shoot at them I missed then we went down the road little way and pull off the road on to another road and we were driving and we get to a bunch of oil wells and that is Karlie shot hers. After we cleaned Karlie’s we went to look for mine so we go and look for them and we see them and we crawl up to them and I run out of bullets in my gun so dad gives me his gun and I shoot it falls down after we finish cleaning it Karlie says look at that there is this fawn looking at us so we sneak up and shoot it falls I’m like yeah! So we go clean it and go home.
